Child Support School Fees

Are school fees included in child support payments?

The answer to this is no.

Child support in Utah is for the bare necessities of a child’s life and having worked with thousands of parents at this point, I can tell you that the child support here in Utah doesn’t cover school fees it’s not going to cover private school tuition, and there are no laws in Utah that specifically talk about these sorts of school fees.

Negotiate school fees during your divorce.

Just as with extracurricular activity fees, like if you know you want to put your son or daughter in soccer or karate or dance, you have to negotiate that separate from child support, separate from other payments.

School fees are the exact same way…

They will need to be discussed and decided upon when you go into mediation, or during negotiation. A good Utah family law atttorney will know to ask you about your childrens school tuition fees, and any other related fees, so that they are addressed as a separate line-item when you negotiate your divorce.

If you don’t do this, then you and your ex are under absolutely no obligation to pay any of those school fees.
