Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas enter divorce mediation

It is not uncommon nowadays to see some people who have divorced more than once. As many in Utah will know, this is especially true for celebrities in the entertainment business. Both Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas have experience with divorce prior to their recently announced divorce from one another. Also, the couple appears to have worked out many issues through divorce mediation.

Griffith had recently filed for a divorce from Banderas after 18 years of being married. Griffith has been divorced three times in the past while Banderas has been divorced two prior times. The actress has cited irreconcilable differences in her court filing, according to documents released to the public.

Griffith is asking for spousal support as well as child support. She is also petitioning for sole physical custody of the couple’s daughter, Stella, who will become 18 years of age in September. The court petition filed by the actress is also asking for joint legal custody of their daughter.

Griffith is offering to pay for her own attorney fees. The couple will then have to divide their marital property, which includes property in the United States as well as abroad. Griffith signed the divorce petition in late May; however, she did not provide an exact date indicating when the couple had separated. The couple began dating in 1995 when they were both on the set of the same film, and they eventually married in 1995.

Just like any other divorce in Utah or any other state, the court will ultimately decide the terms of the divorce. Whether the divorce is contentious or not, it is important for a spouse in a divorce to understand the relevant laws. This will help when making decisions during divorce mediation.
